Genesis 49;2.8.8-10, Matthew 1:1-17.

God’s promises for his children will surely come to pass. All we need is to make ourselves worthy of his promises. His promises for the house David came to pass when he saw the maiden who passed for a rightful channel.

The genealogy of Jesus is divided into three section. The first fourteen generation which led to the rise of David as king, and the next fourteen generation after which comes the deportation to Babylon and the coming of Jesus which brought a new dawn.

The rise of King David was the rise of a great king.  The deportation to Babylon was a memorable period of set-back for the house of Israel and a time of longing for the coming of Christ, their liberator. Once in glory, and having wallowed in the desert of sin, God set his people free through his Son Our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus has come to give us life in abundance. He came to carry away our sins. He came to bring us good tiding, to set the captives free. He came to give sight to the blind, to release those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of God’s favour. [Luke 4:16-19].

Like David, we are all kings by the virtue of our baptism. If by human frailty we have lost our exalted position in the Lord, the coming of Jesus remains our only remedy. As we prepare for Christmas, let us invite the Lord to come into our lives once again. He is only one who can restore us back tour original innocence. Through him, the promises of God will come into fulfillment in our lives.

May our choices in life always dispose us to receive the Lord, our redeemer and restorer. Amen.
