THIRD WEEK OF LENT
R1:- Hosea 14:1-9
Accl:- Matthew 4:17
Gosp:- Mark 12:28b-34
THEME: THE LOVE OF GOD AND NEIGHBOUR.
*Scribe* : Which commandment is the first of all?
*Jesus* : The first is, Hear O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. The second is this: you shall love your neighbour as yourself.”
Loving God is not a matter of lip confession. It is acknowledging his supremacy in our lives. It entails being grateful to him for the wonder of our being. This also means accepting our lives as gifts from him. Moreover, cherishing our creation is asking for why we are made and working towards achieving our life purpose. That is the sole aim of our existence.
More so, when we accept ourselves, we must surely accept others. People with healthy self-image do not need to struggle before they love others. Recognizing the spark of God in us makes it easier to see others as fellow sharers in the light of the heavenly Father.
True love flows from the depth of our being. It is the mark of those who gave tasted what it means to being in the kingdom of God.
- May God help us to accept ourselves as special gifts of his love. May we truly love ourselves that we may freely love our neighbours as fellow images of God’s likeness. Amen.
