HOMILY OF MONDAY OF THE 4TH WEEK IN LENT
SOLEMNITY OF JOSEPH, THE HUSBAND OF MARY
2 Samuel 7:4-5,12-14,16, Romans 4:13,16-18,22, Matthew 1:16,18-21,24
THEME: FAITH AND RESPONSIBILITY
QUOTE: True faith goes together with responsibility. If we have faith in God, we should do whatever he tells us without excuses.
The fulfillment of God’s promises may be delayed however, nothing can stop his eternal purpose. From generation to generation, he achieves his purpose using those who listen to his voice. God’s promise to David has not changed through the ages. His descendant was instrumental in the coming of his eternal Son into the world. For example, Joseph was a man of honour because he obeyed the instruction of the Lord and he took Mary his wife home when he found out that she was pregnant.
Joseph was known for purity, therefore, we need to have a pure heart before we can see God. For his kind of person, he had a clear mind that welcomed God’s voice. By so doing, he became a key player in the history of human salvation.
More so, our faith in God and our daily reliance on his word fix us into the fulfillment of his will. Through righteousness, which consists of faith, Abraham became the father of nations. True faith goes together with responsibility. If we have faith in God, we should do whatever he tells us without excuses. His choice gives us peace.
We can engage God in a dialogue of faith asking him what exactly are the plans he wants to achieve in our own time. Let us draw closer to Jesus that we may align ourselves with his mission on earth. Joseph, the husband of Mary has played his own part as a stepfather and as a protector of the holy family. We too can play our own roles by joining to fulfil Christ’s mission in the world.
O Lord, as we journey during this period of lent, kindly show us exactly what you want us to achieve in our generation. The world is wandering away from God. Help us to listen to your promptings so we may always raise your righteous banner. Amen.
