THE GOOD WE DO, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

HOMILY OF MONDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK OF EASTER.

Acts 6:8-15, John 6:22-29

THEME: THE GOOD WE DO

The good we do only makes meaning mostly to those who benefit directly from them. When they come to us on account of what we do, we need to scrutinize their intention. Nevertheless, since we cannot know the depth of man’s heart, we can save ourselves from the trouble of endless search into their hearts as we keep doing whatever good the Lord has placed in our hearts.

In our first reading, Stephen was accused falsely before the Sanhedrin simply because of the wonders God performed through him. When those of the synagogue of freedman, the scribes and elders couldn’t withstand his wisdom, they resulted to false accusation. Above all, his mind was fixed on heaven.

In the gospel narratives, Jesus told the crowd that was searching for him,

“I tell you most solemnly, you are not looking for me because you have seen the signs, but because you had all the bread you wanted to eat.

Knowing the intention of the people around us helps us to know where to place them, and how to help them if we discover that they have debased motives. This makes the good we do to create a deep impression and produce lasting fruits in people’s lives. Jesus said to them,”

“Do not work for food that cannot last, but work for food that endures to eternal life, the kind of food the Son of Man is offering you, for on him the Father, God himself, has set his seal.”

May the Lord save us from the hands of those who fight us on account of our good works. May the good we do produce lasting effects on those around us. Amen.
