HOMILY, MONDAY OF THE 29TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
Eph 2:1-10, Luke 12:13-21
Man is naturally good. To be human is to be divine, because God created us in his own image. We are naturally made to be children of obedience. The Psalmist says, “The Lord made us; we belong to him.”
Sin is a reproach and it separates us from God. The moment we commit sins and do not have sense of remorse, we should know that the spirit of the world has crept in.
A simple test to know when we are ruled by the spirit of the world is when we begin to detest the gospel or those who confront us with the realities of our sins. Then we should know that we are already giving in to the rule of “the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience.” Eph 2:2.
However, it is better to be dying as a result of the guilt which incur from our sins than to cover our sins or make them look good by giving them good names. The good news is that, Jesus is the one who has come to bring us closer to our Father. After our fall, he draws us closer to himself, telling us that all is not lost. By his grace we are saved.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God- not because of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Eph 2:8-10
May the Lord help us to always and swiftly respond to his grace.
