The Need to Reconcile & Live Happily with One Another

By Rev. Fr. Adole Achilleus Ile Lampez CSSp

40
HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE 29TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B 25TH OF OCTOBER 2024
1st reading : Ephesians 4:1-6
Psalm 23:1-6
Gospel : Luke 12:54-59

Though Christianity helps to shape our life positively, it does not expunge human nature in us.

Consequently, human passions such as the need to be at the top, the need for pleasure, the need for relationships, the need for security, the need to be angry, and even the need for fighting for what one wants, and the need for revenge, surfaces once a while. But not allowing yourself to be driven by these passions shows your maturity as a Christian.

And so, Paul writes to the Ephesians “to lead a life worthy of your vocation. Bear with one another charitably, in complete selflessness, gentleness, and patience. Do all you can to preserve the unity of the Spirit by the peace that binds you together…”

Challenges can rise at any time and anywhere, even from the Brethren, but Christ wants us to remain united even in the face of these challenges. And so, He advises that “when you go to court with your opponent, try to settle with him on the way, or he may drag you before the judge and the judge hand you over to the bailiff and the bailiff have you thrown into prison. I tell you, you will not get out till you have paid the very last penny.”

We must remember that we are all one, having one Lord and master. Therefore, we must reconcile to live together and make the bond of unity stronger. This way, we can grow together as a body of Christ.

Peace be with you 🙏🏾🙌🏾
