Finding Balance in Christ

Homily Of Wednesday First week of the Ordinary Time 15th January, 2025
Ref: Heb 2:14-18, Mk 1:29-39

There is a song by Harrysong that has the popular Nigerian saying “After the reggae play the blues.”

Reggae and Blues are two very contrasting types of music. Reggae music of the Bob Marley and Peter Tosh brand was seen as a quick tempo protest and revolutionary music. Blues on the other hand is more of a slow tempo evoking feelings of love and calmness.

Today, we learn from Jesus that after every reggae, there must be the blues which will give the reggae longevity and purposeful direction. After Jesus had done the work of healing during the day, in the morning long before dawn, he got up and left the house to a lonely place and prayed there.

How do we end our day? Do we meditate and examine our conscience? Why do we have weekends? Many of us have allowed our works and business to take control of us that we don’t even have time for God talk more of ourselves and families.

Dear friends, let us learn from Jesus the need to set out quiet time for ourselves after playing the reggae of the day, “na the fowl wey never die go still chop corn”.

May the Lord help us to mark out our daily plans well involving Him who is the beginning and end of everything.
