Our first reading is one of the most stirring passages in the Scriptures, a passage that is written for the purpose of stirring us to run and to keep on running in the Christian Race of Life.
What is the Christian Race? It is the race for heaven. It is the race for life, to live with God forever. It is the race for perfection. It is the race for righteousness and justice, the race for the promised land. It is the race to know God, to live in the new heavens and earth. The list is endless!
The inspiration for all of us on this Christian Race is a great cloud of witness (Heb 12:1). The picture is that of a race. The scene is a great coliseum filled with capacity with spectators (great cloud).
The great demand of this race dear friends, is to resist temptation even to the shedding of blood. This is the picture of Christ’s ordeal in Gethsemane and upon the cross. This is equally a reflection of the life of St Agatha whom we celebrate today.
Therefore, we are called to lift up our hands and strengthen our buckling knees. We are called to make straight the path for our feet. We are called to heal whatever is lame.
We can only be consistent in doing this if don’t resist discipline! Do not make light of discipline, do not loose heart or give up when disciplined and always endure the discipline of God.
May the Lord bless his words in our heart through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Peace!!!
