Turning away from sinful behaviour is the best way of responding to the goodness of God. Beyond all else, the wonders of God in our surroundings and in us are enough reasons why we should give him significant space in our lives. The best of all testimonies is the evidence of a repentant life.
In the first reading, Baruch lamented the negative effects of the people’s refusal to obey the commandments of the Lord.
“From the day when the Lord brought our ancestors out of the land of Egypt until today we have been disobedient to the Lord our God, we have been disloyal, refusing to listen to his voice. And so the disasters, and the curse which the Lord pronounced through his servant Moses the day he brought our fathers out of Egypt to give us a land where milk and honey flow, have seized on us, disasters we experience today.”

Moreover, in the gospel, Jesus said, “‘Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. And still, it will not go as hard with Tyre and Sidon at the Judgement as with you. And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be exalted high as heaven? You shall be thrown down to hell.”
The continuous love of God
God blesses us every day and he continues to guide our ways. He protects us in many ways we cannot explain. We may not be able to perceive all that the does because of our level of knowing, he keeps performing his wonders in our lives and he expects us to respond appropriately by turning towards him all our days.
We should be careful, lest we waste God’s love. He calls us daily to repent and follow his ways.
The love we have wasted, O Lord repair. As we keep responding to the goodness of God in our our lives, may we never be separated from him again. Amen.
