HOMILY OF FRIDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD. 10TH OF DECEMBER 2025
1st reading : 1 John 4:19-5:4
Psalm 71:1-2,14-15,17
Gospel : Luke 4:14-22
“…The spirit of the Lord has been given to me, for he has anointed me. He has sent me to bring the good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives and to the blind new sight, to set the downtrodden free, to proclaim the Lord’s year of favour. He then rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the assistant and sat down. And all eyes in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to speak to them, ‘This text by Jesus is being fulfilled today even as you listen…”
Just as seen in the gospel of today, we live in a society dominated and characterized by captivity of various kinds, blindness, poverty, sickness, sadness, and many other unfortunate situations. And so, like Jesus, who fulfilled this prophecy by Isaiah in the course of His earthly mission, we, too, are challenged to positively affect the lives of those around us.
We must remember that Jesus did not just end up preaching alone, He fed many, gave drinks to many, healed their sick, and even raised their dead. We must not be able to beat Jesus in this task. However, no little effort will go ineffective
Note, importantly, our Christianity must exceed mere words. Acting out Christianity is more important than piling up theoretical expressions with the bid to defend the faith.
May His grace be sufficient for us to be more practical in our faith.
Peace be with you 🙏🏾🙌🏾
