HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE 31ST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B 8TH OF NOVEMBER 2024
1st reading : Philippians 3:17-4:1
Psalm 121:1-5
Gospel : Luke 16:1-8
I have come to call the sinners and not the righteous for only the one who is sick has need of a physician… (Mark 2:17).
Consequent to the above-mentioned, we can not say that the fold is a perfect one, but one in which each is to work up his salvation with fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12-13)
Paul continues his warning for the fold in our first reading of today thus, “I have told you often, and I repeat it today with tears, there are many who are behaving as the enemies of the cross of Christ.”
In the gospel, we see an example of a negative influence of dishonesty in the fold that we should never allow to influence.
Hear what the steward has to say, “Now that my master is taking the stewardship from me, what am I to do? Dig? I am not strong enough. Go begging? I should be too ashamed. Ah, I know what I will do to make sure that when I am dismissed from the office, there will be some to welcome me into their homes. Then, he called his master’s debtors one by one. To the firs, he said, How much do you owe my master? One hundred measures of oil was the reply. The steward said, Here, take your bond; sit down straight away and write fifty…” and so the story continues.
Like the community in Philippi addressed by Paul and the household of the master as seen in the gospel text of today, Our Christian communities are not free of negative influences and we must strive not to be affected by them.
So then, my dear friends, do not give way but remain faithful in the Lord.
Peace be with you 🙏🏾🙌🏾
