CALLED BY THE SPIRIT THROUGH THE CHURCH

HOMILY, THURSDAY, 10TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

[MEMORIAL OF ST BARNABAS]

Acts 11:21b-26, 13:1-1, Gospel Matthew 10: 7-13

[Barnabas, the apostle, was a man with a large heart, who made it easy for Saul to join the community of believers after his conversion. He was a man of encouragement.]

Though, the Holy Spirit is God, he needs us to operate. We are his heads, hands, and legs. While he had been in and wirh Barnabas and Saul, he still needed the church to minister his unction upon them for the job he called them to do. He said, “Set apart for me, Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Acts 13:1-3. The Holy Spirit works through the church so as to ensure her growth. And whatever we do must gear towards the same goal. In whatever we do, it is not just about us alone. We belong to a family. We must be ready to follow the leading of the Spirit through the church.

Let us pray for our church leaders that they may be true channels of the Holy Spirit.

QOUTES: Every call of God comes with specific grace and instructions. When we obey, we get results. Matthew 28:19a-20b.

PRAYER

O Lord, here I am. Use me to minister you life unto others. May I not do anything without your direction. Set me apart for your duty. Thy kingdom come.
