HOMILY OF SUNDAY OF THE 12TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Jeremiah 20:10-1, Romans 5:12-15, Matthew 10:26-33

THEME: CONSISTENT IN THE TRUTH

The truth possesses a remarkable tendency to unveil itself. Regardless of our silence or utterance, it persists in staring directly at us. It may choose to confront us through the courageous voices that dare to speak it, or it may manifest as the regrettable outcome of our failure to uphold it when falsehood has inflicted its painful bite upon us.

“Jesus instructed the Twelve as follows: ‘Do not be afraid. For everything that is now covered will be uncovered, and everything now hidden will be made clear. What I say to you in the dark, tell in the daylight; what you hear in whispers, proclaim from the housetops. ‘Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; fear him rather who can destroy both body and soul in hell.”

We should not swallow phlegm for fear of offending others. Truthful people are like cudgels for those who have chosen to tread the path of falsehood. When we do not shy away from proclaiming the truth of the gospel, God knows how best to preserve us. It was not easy for Jeremiah, and he cried out. “

“I hear so many disparaging me,’ “Terror from every side! “Denounce him! Let us denounce him!’ All those who used to be my friends watched for my downfall, ‘Perhaps he will be seduced into error. Then we will master him and take our revenge!”

He had God as his only deliverer.

More so, Jesus gave a warning in the gospel,

“So, if anyone declares himself for me in the presence of men, I will declare myself for him in the presence of my Father in heaven.

In a world where values are judged by the obtainable, we are called to be apostles of the immutable truth. Jesus is the same, yesterday, today, and forever.

May we always stand for righteousness no matter the wind of change. Amen.
