(On this day, which was the dedication in the year 543 of the church of Our Lady near to the Temple in Jerusalem, together with the Christians of the Eastern rites we celebrate that dedication of herself which Mary made to God from her very childhood under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit who filled her with grace at her Immaculate Conception.)
After our natural birth, we need to be reborn. Our new birth comes with the new life we embrace when we declare ourselves to God, our source.
Mary’s dedication was in response to the divine call within her, inviting her to prepare for her eternal destiny.
Our history on earth is not complete until submit ourselves to God’s merciful designs for our lives.
Our real purpose in life is beyond our present mundane existence with all its limitations. It points to something beyond the physical.
When Jesus was confronted with some questions that bother on resurrection, using the case of the seven brothers who married the same woman and died begetting no children by her. He was asked, “in resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For seven had her as a wife. Jesus said to them,
” The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage; those who are accounted worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, for they cannot die any more, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.”
We do not judge heaven by the world’s standard. Our life is more spiritual than physical.
Hence, whatever we do that cannot take bearing in our life beyond the grave should not be given primary attention in our daily living. Everything we do should gear towards achieving eternal goal.
Let us pray to God discern to align us to our destiny that we may dedicate ourselves to him and channel all our energy to servicing his eternal plan for us.
Pray for us O holy mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.
