HOMILY OF SUNDAY IN THE 20TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
Isaiah 56:1,6-7, Romans 11:13-15,29-3, Matthew 15:21-28,
THEME: DIVINE INCLUSION
No race resembles God better than the other. Any race that enjoys God’s supernatural invasion at any time, should be grateful, lest their testimonies become chronicles of past glories.
God said in the first reading, “Foreigners who have attached themselves to the Lord to serve him and to love his name and be his servants – all who observe the sabbath, not profaning it, and cling to my covenant – these I will bring to my holy mountain.”
Paul told the Romans, in the second reading, “Let me tell you pagans this: I have been sent to the pagans as their apostle, and I am proud of being sent, but the purpose of it is to make my own people envious of you, and in this way save some of them.”
In the Gospel, Jesus tested the faith of the Canaanite woman, and her unwavering determination resulted in the fulfillment of her request. Despite Jesus not having initiated his mission in their region, she effectively altered the course of Jesus’s mission timeline.
The initiation of a journey by God alongside us does not imply the absence of a future plan for others. God’s visitation is universal. May we always welcome his ideals whenever he calls on us. Amen.
