DO NOT WASTE THE LOVE OF GOD

97

HOMILY, FRIDAY OF THE 19TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

ST MAXIMILAN KOLBE, P.M. MEMORIAL

Raymond Kolbe was born in Poland in 1894. When he joined the Franciscans, he took the name of Maximilian Mary. He was intensely devoted yo the Blessed Virgin Mary. Within a short time he began publishing a monthly magazine to spread the veneration of Mary. When the Nazis invaded Poland, Maximilian was arrested and sent to Auschwitz. In 1941, he heroically offered his life in place of another man who had been selected for execution. After been starved for two weeks, he was killed with a lethal injection.[Daily Missal]

Ezekiel 16: 1-15.60.63, Matthew 19:3-12

It is barbaric to destroy the fruits of our labour in a burst of anger. God will not destroy what he has made. He keeps forgiving us so as to achieve his purpose in us. It is left to us to embrace his love or reject his constant call to be with him.

He reminded the house of Israel that he did to keep him alive. Despite the iniquities and disobedience of his people, he refused to forget his covenant with them. He said,

” Yet I will remember my covenant with you I’m the days of your youth, and I will establish with you an everlasting covenant, that you may remember and be confounded, and never open your mouth again because of your shame, when I forgive you all that you have done.”

Dear beloved, we must not take the love of God for granted. We may be comfortable today, thinking that all is well. We may be progressing in our different endeavours, thinking that all is by our own power. God is the one holds all things in being. It is abomination to bite the finger that fed us. Gratitude is the best response for good deeds.

*PRAYERS*
May the Lord open our ears to hear him whenever he calls. May he open our hearts to know how much love lavish upon us.

May St Maximilian Kolbe pray for us that we may share in the courage with which he poured out his life for others.

Peace be with you.
