HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE 31ST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B 8TH OF NOVEMBER 2024
1st reading : 2 John 1:4-9
Psalm 118:1-2,10-11,17-18
Gospel : Luke 17:26-37
Many in our generation think they have heard enough of the message of the gospel. To such, the message no longer means anything, and consequently, they go about like nothing is at stake. Yet, the call to seek the Kingdom of God remains urgent.
Jesus sounds a note of warning to all who may fall into this category.
The merriment of this present time should not shift our focus from the main goal – the Kingdom of God.
Jesus recalled the event of Noah and the people of that time concerning the great flood. And also, the story of sodom and gomorrah. He used these stories to address the urgent need to retrace our steps back to the path that leads to the Kingdom.
“…I tell you, on that night two will be in one bed: one will be taken, the other left; two women will be grinding corn together: one will be taken, the other left…”
We must keep our guard that we might not be taken unaware.
Peace be with you 🙏🏾🙌🏾
