HOMILY OF SATURDAY OF THE 4TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
Heb 13:15-17, 20-21, Mark 6:30-34
THEME: EMPOWERED BY THE WORD
Quotes: “For those who are ready to make sacrifice, work can never finish.” “The right knowledge produces the best result”
In the gospel reading, Jesus had pity on his disciples; he told them to come to a lonely place to have rest, having reported to him all they have done. That does not mean that they have no more work awaiting them. Though they were exhausted, the crowd was still there looking and waiting for them. Yet, the Lord told them to go and rest. We cannot finish work, but work can finish us.
Moreover, when Jesus saw the crowd, he had pity on them the same, and he began to teach them many things. Possibly, the disciples have been busy performing miracles among the people. Jesus saw exactly what they needed. They needed knowledge. So, he took his time to teach them. They may not know that what they are looking for in the disciples is equally in them. Knowledge is power. When we know the principles of the kingdom, we can easily tap into the kingdom’s treasures.
Unfortunately, these days, we see people running after signs and wonders, forgetting that they are people of signs and wonders themselves.
Paul in the first reading prayed, “may God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep by the blood of the eternal covenant, furnish you with all that is good, that you may do his will.”
Hence, when we are filled with the knowledge of God, we tap into his blessings.
May the Lord teach us all we need to know that we may enjoy our daily portion of his blessings through Christ our Lord.
