Encountering the Risen Jesus

HOMILY OF FRIDAY AFTER EASTER 25TH APRIL 2025.
BY REV FR. ADOLE ACHILLEUS ILE LAMPEZ CSSp.
Texts: 1st reading : Acts 4:1-12 Psalm 117:1-2,4,22-27 Gospel : John 21:1-14

21

Jesus Christ rose from the dead, and he continues to reveal himself to his disciples. And today again, He revealed himself to Peter and others.

It is important to note that encountering the risen lord requires personal disposition and effort to seek Him. Let us remember that at the first instance of the resurrection message, Peter, with the other disciples, ran to the tomb to see the risen lord (John 20:1-9)

Today, their effort in seeking the risen lord paid out when they have almost lost the hope of seeing Him. The gospel text presents it thus: “That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his clothes, for he was stripped for work, and sprang into the sea…”

To encounter the risen lord, we must leave behind our past unfaithfulness and seek Him zealously just like Peter did even though he had initially denied Jesus Christ, too, must make sincere effort to encounter Christ and benefit from the power of his resurrection.

Peace be with you 🙏🏾
