HOMILY OF SUNDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK OF EASTER.
Acts 2:14,22-33, 1 Peter 1:17-21, Luke 24:13-35
THEME: GIVE IN TO JESUS
QUOTE: When our mind twisted , our vision will be uttered.
As Christians, our actions must be continuous proof of the Lord’s resurrection. We are called not to a night which falls but to a dawn which breaks. The disciples on their way to Emmaus were overwhelmed by their disappointment, they walked towards the sunset instead of moving towards the sunrise. They allowed their state of mind to twist the reality around them. They were not able to recognise the Lord because their hearts were not settled.
As Christians, our hope is hinged on the risen Lord. The resurrection night ushers us into a bright day. This is clear from our Easter Proclamation.
Therefore, O Lord we pray that this candle.
Hallowed to the honour of your name,
May preserve undimmed,
To overcome the darkness of this night.
Receive it as a pleasing fragrance.
And let it mingle with the lights of heaven.
May this flame be found still burning?
By the Morning Star
The one Morning Star who never sets,
Christ your Son,
Coming back from death’s domain
Has shed his peaceful light on humanity,
And lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.
Jesus does not force himself on anybody. He wants us to take the initiative to give him a place in our lives. “When they drew near to the village to which they were going, he made as if to go on; but they pressed him to stay with them. ‘It is nearly evening’ they said ‘and the day is almost over”. Jesus applied the rule of courtesy and the two disciples did not fail to do the needful. they invited the Lord unknowingly. No matter what we are passing through, let us give Jesus a chance in our lives and homes. Jesus is present wherever there is a need. The disciples did not allow their confusion to prevent them from welcoming Jesus into their home. They experienced the risen Lord having shown an act of charity to a stranger. We mustn’t use our situations as excuses for not showing kindness.
With joy we will draw water from the well of salvation. Only joy builds. Let us focus on God’s promise of salvation to his promise and count ourselves worthy of his promises through his grace.
May the joy of Easter be clearly seen in lives, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
