HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE OCTAVE OF EASTER YEAR A
Acts 4:1-12, John 21:1-14
THEME: GRACE OF STATE
QUOTES: When God calls us, he gives us special grace for his mission.
We become more valuable and productive when we allow God to sail our boat. God is ever ready to empower us in the fulfilment of whatever he sent us to do.
In today’s first reading, we can see that when the captain of the temple and the Sadducees arrested Peter and John, God did not allow the disciples to face the challenges before them by their own intellect or power. The Holy spirit empowered Peter to give appropriate responses to the questions of the elders.
In same like manner, when Simon Peter Simon led some of the disciples to fish in the river, they caught nothing until Jesus stepped in. They had returned to where he took them from, forgetting that he had already bought them over for a different mission entirely, a mission with a special grace of state. After his resurrection, he kept searching for them and when he found them at the river, he reminded them that “It is not by strength that one prevails” (1 Samuel 2:9).
Let’s pray that we may always follow the plans of God in order to constantly enjoy his special grace to function effectively. Amen.
