GRATITUDE: OUR BEST ATTITUDE TO GOD’S LOVE, Revd Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua, CSSp

*HOMILY, 27TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A*

Is 5:1-7; Phil 4:6-9; Mt 21:33-43

Genuine love may not be appreciated, but it can never be wasted. Showing love amidst all odds is heroic. The one who rejected it is the victim of circumstances. For love unutilized by one is love transfered to another.

Moreover, when we are too blind to see the work of God in our lives or we are too ungrateful to say “thank you” for his wonderful works, we are blocking the ways for more blessings to come. Until we turn and look, we can enjoy the stream of God’s favours. Gratitude connects us to the source of our blessings.

” _The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel_ ”

We see in the first reading how the house of Israel is described as an ungrateful object of God’s love. Despite God’s showers of blessings, the people are adamant and do not give God a thump up in their words and deeds. Hence, calamity was declared upon them.

More so,the parable of Jesus in the gospel describes God as the owner of the vineyard who put man in charge of his vineyard. Having sent his servants to the world to reconcile the world to himself, they were treated with scorn and derision. This culminate in the murder of his son.

The parable describe the patience of God with man. He has so much trust in us that he gave us the freedom, with little or no supervision to be in charge of his household with all the necessary graces or knowledge needed.

Our response to him should that of gratitude; for we cannot bite the finger that fed us. We must approach God with thankfulness and lead life worthy of his call.

Above all, we shall be accountable for whatever we do with his shower of love.

Unfortunately, At times, when God gives us the intelligence and the freewill to explore life possibility , we tend to forget him, believing that our achievement come from our sweat or hardworking. We must not forget that all our endowment are fruits of his love and must be used and administered with sense of gratitude.

From time to time, he will be sending people; priests, friends, relations, neighbours, coworkers to remind us of our debt of gratitude to him. These people may come as beggars or people who need some kinds of directions or enlightenment on some matters or skills in which we have a greater advantage. It is left for us to remember that we owe nothing of our own safe God.

Therefore, let us strive to be positive and be grateful for God’s goodness in our lives. Let us show him our gratitude by showing him love in return by being part of the engineers of a new world that is serviced by love and gratitude.

May we not be used to complaining, may God’s love radiate in our heart. May we never suffer God’s wrath for any king of neglect or ingratitude in Jesus name. Amen.

Awesome blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring writers?
I’m hoping to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost
on everything. Would you propose starting with a free platform like
Wordpress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m totally confused ..
Any ideas? Kudos!
