KEEPING OUR HOPE ALIVE

75

Homily of Tuesday of the 30th week in ordinary time year A. Theme: Keeping our hope alive, by Rev Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp.

No matter what we pass through in life, we must not take a tiny bit of our efforts for granted. Our little beginnings count. We simply need to know that a journey of thousand miles starts with a step.

The Lord Jesus, in the gospel liken the kingdom of God to a mustard seed. He said, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it with? It is like a mustard seed which a man took and threw into his garden: it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air sheltered in its branches.” God who put man in the garden village, expects him to make it into a garden city. He gives us the capacity to increase and multiply.

Moreover, there is a sense of inclusivity in the above passage. The motif of the birds of the air sheltering in the branches, means that God is creating a kingdom through us that is meant to accommodate a host of others. Hence, whatever we do, we must look beyond our own confines and think about others. We must keep an open house and extend our service to all and sundry in love. We should be flexible enough to welcome the ideas of others because God will keep doing new things in our midst, through his countless children who he has blessed with varying gifts.

Furthermore, we must break down every form of barriers that separate us. and see the universality of God’s love for all nations.

Dear one, don’t give up. The world is a home. Keeping our hope alive open us up to the possibility of bearing fruits that will last. If you keep your heart open, the Lord will translate your sweat into enduring fruits.

May your daily participation in the Lord’s kingdom, yield harvest of joy. Amen.
