As people of God, it is imperative that we learn to know the sign of our time. It is necessary to know the spirit of our age so that we may conduct ourselves becomingly. This helps us to be versed in the wisdom for profitable living. When we are well informed, we cannot be caught unaware in the web of life. Knowing the sign of our time has to do with having a discernment spirit.
The Lord Jesus said in the gospel,
“When you see a cloud looming up in the west you say at once that rain is coming, and so it does. And when the wind is from the south you say it will be hot, and it is. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the face of the earth and the sky. How is it you do not know how to interpret these times?”
We are caught up in a world where diverse ideas are generated every day. Some of these ideas or thoughts can erode the life of grace in us if we take them for granted. Hence, we cannot accept anything that comes our way or join some struggles that cannot lead us anywhere. No matter the number of people that trod a particular path to life, we should be conscious of what exactly rhymes with the Spirit that we have received.
Prompt awareness of the signs of our time
A stitch in times saves nine. The Lord further said, “Why not judge for yourselves what is right? For example: when you go to court with your opponent, try to settle with him on the way, or he may drag you before the judge and the judge hand you over to the bailiff and the bailiff have you thrown into prison. I tell you; you will not get out till you have paid the very last penny.”
When we do not check our appetite on time or are too late to censure our involvement in the world, we may end up at a point of no return.
May our spiritual antenna be sharp and may we never be entangled in pursuits that cannot minister grace to our souls. Amen.
