THE POSITIVE SIDE OF SUFFERING

“Anything that does not kill us, makes us stronger. Suffering can make us more capable of withstanding problems; it helps us to endure hardships. Just like the muscles, in order to build up, must endure some pains, so our emotions must endure pain in order to be strengthened.”

Suffering increases your endurance or the ability to bear pain when troubles arise. When you have faced and overcome serious problems, these issues eventually become meaningless; and they can be handled without much efforts. More energy, strength and time to focus on bigger issues are subsequently released.

1. Hardship can make us smarter. These days, it’s accepted that any unusual experience, even the simplest of tasks, can challenge the brain; helps to keep it healthy and active as much as exercise assist in keeping the body sound. When we’re going through difficulties, we are faced with all sorts of puzzles which might include, how to find workable ways of saving money. Only the thoughts of finding ways around problems are enough training for our brains. And again, researchers think that even something as negative as depression might help sharpen our mental skills.

2. Hardship can make us more compassionate. Most intelligent people who have been through lots of hardships for example, loss of a job or death of a loved one, serious illnesses among others, feel more sympathetic towards people who are experiencing similar issues. Hence, the ability to feel for people becomes easy. Developing the ability to feel what others are experiencing makes us better persons in any circumstances we find ourselves. Thereby, helping us to develop a deeper and more satisfying connection with most people.
