HOMILY OF 11TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Exodus 19:2-6, Romans 5:6-11, Matthew 9:36-10:8
THEME: THE CHOSEN
God’s love is for all his creatures, he works through some to reach others. Since his gift of free will gives everyone the power of choice, many have succumbed to the likelihood of wandering away from him. Yet his love for all is everlasting. It is a privilege to be counted among those set apart as anchor for others to go back home.
In the first reading, The Lord spoke from the mountain, instructing Moses what to convey to the House of Jacob and the sons of Israel, “Witness my deeds against the Egyptians. Obey and uphold my covenant, and you’ll be my chosen nation, a kingdom of priests.”
Paul said, in the second reading, that God saved us while we were still sinners.
And the Lord Jesus, having selected his first disciples, sent them to the lost sheep of Israel. He wants his message to spread through his chosen one, he wants to use Israel as the visible sign of his presence, that through them, the other nations will get to know more of his might. “The harvest is rich, but the labourers are few.” He needs Israel to stand so that she can work to witness to his kingdom on earth.
We are Israel, the church, the chosen race. The Lord has set us apart to minister to the world that is far losing Godly values. He wants us to stand unshaken so that we can boldly join the mission of renewing the face of the earth.
The Lord saved us while we were yet sinners. His church is holy not on our merit, but by his mercy and means of salvation he has established for the edification of her members. God’s chosen fear no foe. We are called to tap into the grace of God and work to play down the work of Satan as people who are sent.
Our duty is to make ourselves ready for the work of evangelization, wherever we find ourselves.
May God use us for his own greater glory. Amen.
