THE SECRET OF TRUE WORSHIP

92

HOMILY, WEDNESDAY, 13TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR A.

Amos 5:14-15. 21-24, Matthew 8:28-34

The strength of our words and efficacy of our prayers is determined by the quality of our life and the amount of the current of the Holy Spirit we allow to pass through us. In today’s first reading, the Lord said,

Even though you offer me your burnt offering and cereals offerings, I will not accept them, and the peace offering of your fatted beasts I will not look upon. Take away from me the noise of your sons; to the melody of your harps I will not listen. But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”

There are some results which we can command only by following some spiritual principles. The closer we are to God, the more of such principles we know. We can enjoy such privileges we put on the life of God.

Therefore, let our worship of God go beyond ceremonies and religious observances. God meets us in the heart. He does not judge by appearance. The best of our religious gathering may excites the crowd and elicits admiration. Impact is a product of Special unction from above. It is the fruit of Godly life flowing through the soul of men.

God detests lip worship. He wants his children to be channels of justice. He wants us to be agents of his love.

PRAYER

Lord, let the words of my mouth, the meditation of my heart, be acceptable to you. Make me an agent of your justice. Use me to create a world redeemed. Thy kingdom come.
