WHAT WE DO, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

79

HOMILY OF TUESDAY OF THE 4TH WEEK OF EASTER.

Saint Athanasius, Bishop, Doctor

Acts 11:19-26, John 10:22-30

THEME: WHAT WE DO

QUOTE: We are known for our fruits.

To understand people, we need to have a good knowledge of their history, people are defined by what they do. And with an open mind, we can judge people’s action rightly. Lack of prejudice and bias helps us to make right judgement about others.

Judged by their lifestyle, the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. They were given the name when people saw how they modelled their lives after the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lord, in the gospel, said to the Jews, when they were still doubting his identity.

“I have told you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my father’s name are my witness; but you do not believe it, because you are no sheep of mine. The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

The truth is open to those who have the right disposition.

Saint Athanasius was a fourth-century bishop of Alexandria, Egypt, and a renowned theologian. He was known for his defense of the doctrine of the Trinity and his opposition to the heresy of Arianism, which denied the divinity of Christ. Athanasius was exiled five times for his beliefs but remained steadfast in his faith. He was honoured as a Doctor of the Church for his contributions to Christian theology and spirituality.

Like St Athanasius, let us affirm our faith in Christ, who has come to set us free from the shackles of sin and death. By his Divinity, may our humanity be sanctified. Amen.
