THE CONSEQUENCE OF REBELLION.

78

HOMILY, WEDNESDAY 19TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

 Ezek 9:1-7; 10:18-22, Matthew 18:15-20.

Silence in the face of evil is compliance. We will pay for every evil deed which we allow to happen under our nose.  When we praise evil in order to belong to a society that has no respect for the good, we partake in the work of those who sink our society into decay. Neutrality or sitting on the fence is neither wisdom nor  diplomacy. It has much to do with cowardice.

The judgement of God spares nobody. It starts even in the sanctuary. In our today first reading, the Lord said to the one clothed in linen,

Go through the city, through Jerusalem, and put a mark upon the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it.” And to the others he said in my hearing, “pass through the city after him, and kill; your eye shall not spare, and you shall show no pity; slay old men outright, young men and maidens, little children and women, but touch no one upon whom is the mark And begin at my sanctuary.”

Even the little children suffered in the destruction of the rebellion. Ignorance is not an excuse. We must pray that we are not victims of social sins. Let us watch our ways, so that our actions will not scandalise or bring calamity upon those around us.

Dear beloved, let us close our eyes to evil and do good. Mercy is for only who declare and demonstrate their need for God and are ready to turn from their evil ways.

PRAYER

Dear ones,

May the wrath of God not visit you. May your life attract his blessings and not curse.
