THE LAW OF RECOGNITION

112

HOMILY, THURDSAY, 23RD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

1Cor 8:1b-7,11-13, Luke 6;27-38

Who you know does not matter. What matters is who knows you and what you are known for. Our head cannot contain all the knowledge in this world. Our God is all knowing. If he knows us, and can call us by name, we are secured.

Paul said in the first reading, “if any one imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. But if one loves God, one is known by him.”

Love fulfills the law of attraction which draws us close to the heart of God. We cannot know what we hate. We need proximity to understand the object of our study. We need to love what we are doing before we can get to the depth of all we need to know about it.

In our relationship with people, let us employ the law of love. It is good not to approach people with our preconceived ideas or what we think we know about them. Flesh and blood encounter gives us raw feels of who we are dealing with. We are made for love. People can only understand us better from the stand point of the love we show to them.

May God give us the loving patience that gives us access to the heart of others. May we be known for something of value. Amen.
