HOMILY OF WEDNESDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT YEAR B
Isaiah 40; 25-31, Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus came to relieve man from the burden of religion. In him, all men and women are to experience the raw feel of God’s love. Unlike the Pharisees, who lord it over others through their endless laws, Jesus came to offer freedom of heart that makes us love all we do for God.
More so, when we worship God freely out of own volition, when we do not observe our religious observances under duress or compunction, we are going to possess a sense of true reverence for God.
Our tasks become easy when we do them as service to God. When we invite Jesus into our lives, when we give him the chance to lead us, what we count as burden become lighter than usual.
In today’s gospel, the Lord said,
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30
It is not what happens to us that matters, but our attitude towards them. If we do not process our experience very well, they may weigh on our hearts. But when we look at them in the right perspective and interpret them in the light of the spirit, they become stepping stones to greater things in our lives.
May our lives be knitted perfectly well with that of Jesus and may the burdens we carry in our hearts be lifted off in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
