1 Corinthians 15:1-11, Luke 7:36-50
Some of the people we give bad names due to their awkward behavior may not actually be happy with their situation. Many have ended up in such circumstances by chance or other unfortunate reasons, longing for a way out but not knowing how to find it. While we may judge them, we often overlook their inner struggles and their silent desire for salvation. Some remain trapped in their ways until they encounter someone they believe can truly help them. Others are bound by negative influences or evil forces and are too fearful to break free unless they find someone with greater power to guide them toward salvation without harm.
We take for an example, when Jesus was at the house of Simon, the pharisee, “a woman came in, who had a bad name in the town. She had heard he was dining with the Pharisee and had brought with her an alabaster jar of ointment. She waited behind him at his feet, weeping, and her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them away with her hair; then she covered his feet with kisses and anointed them with the ointment.”
However, Simon was scandalized that Jesus couldn’t detect the kind of woman she was. But Jesus made it clear to him that her many sins have been forgiven her. She must have observed Jesus and have seen that he has all it takes to save her from her ways of life. She took the bold step to win the mercy of God by pouring the ointment on Jesus’ feet and wiped it with her hair.
Similarly, we must recognize that there are some people who are observing us quietly. They are waiting to know if we can genuinely help them in their struggles. They are watching to see if we truly live up to the image we present. By being mindful of these silent observers, we could represent Jesus authentically. Our lives can inspire and draw even the most troubled souls to the Lord, and by so doing lead them to salvation.
May our ways of lives be points of attraction for all who seek the way to salvation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
