Homily of Wednesday 30th week in the Ordinary Time Year B.
Ref: Eph 6:1-9, Luke 13:22-30
Dear friends, I tell people most often that on that very last day, we will be surprised at those we will see at the marriage feast of the Lamb and those we may not see. Our judgments of people may be worldly and based on outward appearance, but will that be God’s way of seeing things? Perhaps He will look deeper, valuing kindness over all.
Paul tells us in the first reading one of the most important Character we all should imbibe, Kindness. St Paul tells parents to be kind to their children and children in turn should be charitable by how they live their lives knowing that it will earn them long life in the land.
Those of us in places of authorities should ensure we treat those who are under us well knowing that there is a master of all in heaven who is not impressed by one more than another.
In the Gospel, Jesus reminds us that not everyone who says, Lord Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven. What is the need for your religiousity when you can’t treat those who are under you well?
What’s the need for your sitting in the front pew in the church flinging your hands in the air at the chant of hossana when you have an evil mind and will squander the pensions of pensioners. What’s the need for cosmetic worship on Sundays when you are still holding back the salaries of the poor masses? You honour with your lips but in your hearts, Jesus has no place.
To such people Jesus will say, “I do not know where you come from. Away from me, all you wicked men!” Do not forget that there are those now last who will be first, and those now first who will be last.’
May God help us to know the right thing to do. Amen.
