The faith in the communion of saints strengthens Christians who deeply believe in the power of the resurrection. This conviction assures us that life does not end with death but continues in the hope of a joyful reunion with our departed loved ones.
Guided by this belief, Spiritan confreres in the London Southwark region recently undertook a journey to honour and pray for their deceased brothers. They visited gravesites at St. Mary’s RC Church in Chislehurst and Beaverwood Cemetery in Kent, where many Spiritan missionaries, including those who served in Countries like Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Australia, and Canada are laid to rest.
On this special day, November 25, 2024, Fathers Leo Illah,Nathaniel Ewusi, Michael Ezenwamadu, Ambrose Ohene, and Godwin Alkali, gathered to commemorate these missionaries. At each gravesite, they put Spiritans emblem on their grave, paused for moments of reflection, and sang Salve Regina, Come Holy Ghost Creator Come, and said some words of prayer, cherishing the memory of those who devoted their lives to the mission of spreading the Gospel.
The day concluded at St. Chad’s in South Norwood, where Fr. Ambrose Ohene currently serves. Here, the confreres shared a meal, celebrating their bond and reflecting on the legacy of their predecessors. The occasion not only honoured the departed but also deepened the living Spiritan community’s commitment to their shared mission. Such acts of remembrance reaffirm their faith and strengthen their resolve to continue the work of those who came before them.
