HOMILY OF TUESDAY AFTER EPIPHANY

1John 4:7-10, Mk 6:34-44

Ignorance is a disease. People who lack instructions are meant to be pitied. With the right knowledge, we can move mountains. When Jesus saw the great throng, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. The first thing he did was that, he began to teach them. The decision to feed them came afterward. Mk 6:34-35.

Jesus understands our plights. He knows what we need even before we voice them out. All he wants is our readiness to learn from him. John said, in his first letter that, “it is not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins.” 1John 4:10

However, nature without nurture can court disaster. Resources without the right ideas can amount to waste. Life without meaning makes one a mere vegetable.

Let us seek knowledge so as to share the fate of those who are taught. The Lord said, “My people are destroyed for lack knowledge.” Hosea 4:6.  The knowledge of God is the best of all knowledge; knowing him is the first stage of human advancement.

May the word of God dwell in us in all richness. May he show us his compassion that we may swim in the ocean of his abundance. Amen
