HOMILY OF TUESDAY AFTER EPIPHANY, 7th JANUARY, 2025
Texts:John 4:7- 10, Mark 6:34-44.
My dear friends in Christ, there is no better time to talk about the love of God than now that we just experienced his profound love on humanity in the incarnation. In our first reading of today, John tells us that the nature of God is love; God is love. As a matter of fact, we are able to love Him because he first loved us. God cannot deny his own self which is love. It is for this reason that sinners are forgiven, the weak are strengthened, the oppressed are liberated.
Dear friends, we have an obligation to express this love that has shown been us to one another. We are obliged to love one another as we have been loved. If we are children of God, we must love one another since our Father in heaven is Love.
In the gospel reading, Jesus this love of God practically by feeding the multitude. We cannot say we love without making sacrifices. The love of God expressed to us is rooted in the giving of his only begotten son. What have we to show that we love one another? During this Christmas season, how much charity did we do? Jesus was moved with compassion on the crowd because they were like sheep without shepherds. Do we allow compassion to move us to reach out to people?
I strongly believe God is going to ask us on the last day how much we loved. Let us genuinely love.
May the Lord bless His words in our hearts. Amen.
The Lord be with you.
