HOMILY OF MONDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B

*THEME: JOY IN THE FACE OF THE CROSS
When we accepts the possible crosses that the future may or will bring our way, we will not allow them to kill our joy at the moments. One step at a time.
“Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. The days will come, when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they fast in that day.” Mark 2:19
Jesus did not shrink at the thought of the imminent cross coming on his way. At the moment, he had no issue celebrating with his disciples.
The road may be rough, the process may be tedious, when we have discovered our chosen path in life, no life challenges can break us.
Moreover, Christian life is that of Joy. As Christians we must not sacrifice our joy at the altar of earthly concerns. We must allow our religious observances to kill our vitality. For instance, fasting is meant to help us to mortify the body and as such help to be in tune with God. It is not an end in itself. In God’s presence, there are some religious observances that should not be our primary focus. All our religious duties are meant to take us into his presence. And when we are there, he takes the first place.
However, since we often vacillates between high and low moments of human exigencies, there are times when some religious disciplines become inevitable.
In all, nothing should kill our joy.
May the joy of the Lord be our strength. May no earthly or mundane thing take the place of God in our lives through Christ our Lord. Amen.
