HOMILY OF THURSDAY OF THE FIFTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B
Genesis 2:18-25, Mark 7:24-30
THEME: LIGHT IN DARKNESS
People of content need no sign post. The sound of their silence is always louder than the advert of bluffers. Those who make noise about who they are or what they can do are simply trying to fill the void around their personality.
Jesus, in our today’s gospel, “arose and went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And he entered a house, and would not have any one know it; yet he could not be hidden. But immediately a woman, whose little daughter was possessed by an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell down at his feet.” Mark 7: 24-26.
It is clear that genuine people do not show off. And those who have genuine needs will never ignore them. Jesus could not hide himself even in a gentile city of Tyre and Sidon. He entered this territory so as to bring down the wall of discrimination against the gentiles. Those who recognize their duty to others can never go unnoticed. Jesus cannot be stiffened by mere religious observances or by racial discrimination or religious intolerance. He goes wherever there are souls to be saved.
May the Lord send his light upon us that we may always be beacons of liberation to those who are most in need of God’s mercy. Amen.
