THEME: WORSHIP AND BUSINESS: UNDERSTANDING THE MISSION OF CHRIST.
In our service of God, we must remove greed and play down our business spirit.
In Bethany, Jesus paid a visit to the family of Mary and Martha. This family have been close to him and were fully part of his ministry. Without doubt, they understood that he was going to Jerusalem to embrace the cross.
In worship, “Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair.” John 12:3
For personal gain, Judas was complaining.”Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” John 12:5
He was the treasurer. Judas was speaking for himself and not for the poor. Greedy people can be crafty in their art. They know the game of appealing to the interest of people so as to take advantage of them.
However, for those who have true spirit of worship, nothing is too costly to give. Their object of worship is always greater than their items of worship. Mary demonstrated this sentiment of worship. She knew the stage where Jesus was in his mission on earth. She had to pay him the last respect.
If we do not understand the mission of Christ, we can easily relate with him based on our individual preference, we will end servicing our need for survival and our quest for relevance and forget the call to be with the Lord in sincere service and worship.
May the worshiper in us arise and may our own mode of service and personal desires not take the place God’s worship in us. Amen.
