HOMILY OF SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER YEAR B
Acts 1;15-17.20a.20c-26, John 4:11-16, John 17:11b-19
THEME: REMAINING IN GOD’S LOVE
Today is world communication day. The best of all communication is involvement. To communicate God’s love to man, Jesus involved himself with the affairs of men. He was able to bring together under one umbrella those who are destined for salvation. His involvement gave him the impetus to report back to his Father as he said,
“I kept them in your name, which you have given me that they may be one, even as we are one. While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me; I have guarded them, and none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled.”
Despite who we may be, God gathers us, for he has purpose for each one of us. Despite our weaknesses and unworthiness, he wants to manifest his glory through us. Like crack pots, he wants to shine through our cracks.
It is tragic if we refused to be touched by the love of God. It is disastrous when we choose to remains gummed to our lower nature and mingle with the world. The world is any system that takes God to be secondary. We must not allow worldly desires to sift us off from God’s purpose in our life.
In order to achieve our life goal, we must be consecrated as Jesus was. He said, “And for their sake, I consecrate myself, that they also may be consecrated in truth.”
Therefore, we must not allow anything in the world to remove us from God’s slot. Judas, for selfish reasons wasted the love of Jesus and was lost. Someone else had to take his place. Nothing can stop God from doing whatever he has promised to do with his people. All we need is to walk worthy of this special call.
May no worldly desire deprive us of God’s special love. Amen.
