HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE 11TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
2kings 11:1-4.9-18, 20, Matthew 6:19-23
THEME: HOW GOD PRESERVES HIS OWN CHOICE
A nation that is ruled by blood-sucking men and women will never know peace until God handpicked his own choice of leader.
Athaliah was ruthless. She was the daughter of Jezebel and king Ahab. She was a woman filled her mother’s murderous instinct. Simply because her son Ahaziah, the king of Judah has died, she chose to destroy the royal family and began to reign over the land.
Fortunately, God used Jehosheba to hide Joash who was to be the next king. He was kept in the house of the Lord until he was ripe to be enthroned.
However, to the amazement of Athaliah, Joash was anointed and crowned king by the priest, Jehoiada. This ended the brutal reign of Athaliah. She died a shameful death in the hands of the king’s army.
Hence, comes alive the saying “When the Lord delivered Zion from bondage, it seemed like a dream.” Psalm 126:1. “If the Lord does not build the house, the labourer will labour in vain.” Psalm 127:1-4
“The heart of the king is in the hands of the Lord” Proverb 21:1. The reign of every evil leader has expiry date.
Every true believer is expected to stand for the truth never loses faith. God is still interested in the affairs of his people.
Every corrupt politician will pay for his or her actions. Those who compromise with them will likewise share in their fate. The priest, Jehoiada said, “Bring her out between the ranks; and slay with the sword anyone who follows her.”
God will always preserve his own. No one can tamper with his choice. It is our duty to pray for our nation. We must equally be ready to defend our territorial integrity the best way possible.
May the Lord bring down every evil reign in our nation and may he change the course of the oppressors. Amen.
