HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE TWENTHY THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY
TIME YEAR C. 12TH SEPTEMBER 2025.

1st reading : 1 Timothy 1:1-2,12-14

Gospel : Luke 6:39-42
“…Why do you observe the splinter in your brother’s eye and never notice the plank in your own?…”
Before we get it wrongly, Jesus is not saying that we don’t need to correct one another. Rather, He tells us to make corrections with love and with good intentions of helping one another to grow.
So, in our journey of faith, there are times when we would need the help of others to grow and keep faith.
Furthermore, Jesus says, “… How can you say to your brother, “Brother, let me take out the splinter that is in your eye,” when you can not see the plank in your own?…Take the plank out of your own eye first, and then you will see clearly enough to take out the splinter that is in your brother’s eye.”
In this, Jesus calls us all to recognise the fact that no one is without a stain. Each of us has either a plank or a splinter in our eyes of which we need also to work towards removing from our eyes. Therefore, we must approach correcting one another with love. It is a human to human relationship and not an angel to human relationships.
May we receive the grace to acknowledge the splinters and planks in our eyes and seek the help of the Holy Spirit to get rid of these hindrances in order to see ourselves as brothers and sisters having one father in Heaven.
