Homily of Wednesday, 31st Week in Ordinary Time, Year C.

Beloved in Christ, in our readings today, we are presented with the cost of Christianity. Ben Sirach already reminds us by saying: “My son, if you want to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for trials” (Sirach 2:1).
To be a good Christian, one must count the cost and be willing to pay the price. As Jesus reminds us in the Gospel, we shouldn’t embark on a project without planning for its completion. Similarly, to follow Christ, we must be aware of the challenges ahead and be prepared to carry our crosses daily, prioritising our faith above all else, even above family ties.
The call to discipleship demands unwavering commitment and selflessness. As St. Paul teaches us, the ultimate debt we owe is love – love for God and for one another. This love is the fulfilment of the Law and the essence of our Christian calling.
May God help us to bear our crosses with love and dedication, staying focused on Him without distraction. Through His grace, may we love God and one another in all that we do. May we find strength in our faith and inspiration in the examples of Christ and the saints. Amen.
