Homily of friday of the fifth week of lent. Year A. 27th march 2025
-By Rev. Fr. Achilleus Ile Adole CSSp.
1st reading: Jeremiah 20:10-13
Responsorial: Psalm 17:2-7
Gospel: John 10:31-43
The case between Jesus and the Jews in the gospel today can be likened to the case between us the christians and those who do not share in our faith. It is the case of the denial of truth.
The Jews would not believe Jesus when He said that He is the son of God. Even when the works of Jesus can serve as proofs beyond doubt to have been done by a divine hand, the Jew undermined these and decided to accuse him of blasphemy. The Jews answered him, “We stone you for no good work but for blasphemy; because you, being a man, make yourself God.” There were aware of the good woeks of Jesus, but that was never their point of interest, and so they closed their eyes at the good things that Jesus had done.
This is exactly the case of the christians in the world today. Even when the evidences of our good works are visible, those who do not share the same faith with us will always find something to acuse us of even when such accusations have no bases.
The Jews accused and attempted to arrest Jesus several times, yet He never stopped doing good. In the same way, even when the people around you close their eyes at the good things you do in the name of God, even when they decided to accuse you and call you names in order to discourage you, never stop to do what is right and the Lord whom you serve will take note of your good works and will reward you.
Peace be with you
