THEME: THE FRUIT OF LOVING RELATIONSHIP
We see in today’s gospel, that the call to love is a command. This means that no one is called to live for himself or herself alone. The Lord puts it clearly, “greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” The ability to show true love is given by the Lord. It comes from intimacy with him. We get this unction through our relationship with him. Our closeness with Jesus gives us access to the heavens. It gives us a pass to our heavenly Father, the source of all blessings. The Lord said that he no longer calls us servants. Rather, he calls us friends. Friendship with Jesus is a pin code to open heavens.
Hence, when we learn from him, we are able to live for others. Living for others, we create atmosphere of love and open doors to favours. When we allow God to use us to bless others, he will in turn bless us through others. Favour grows in an atmosphere of love, for no one shows favours to who he hates. It is the Father of all who allots gifts to his children. It circulates in love.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit shall abide; so whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”
Moreover, whatever we ask God in our ministry of love, he will surely grant us. Meaning, if he is the one who chose us, he will surely provide all it takes to answer his call. Whatever we ask must not simply be narrowed down to our personal needs. It is inclusive anyway, but primarily, it is beyond our personal needs. For no one live for himself or herself alone.
Hence, let us commune with the Lord. Let us obey his call to love. Let us grow beyond ourselves. He will surely bless us with fruits that last.
May the Lord continue to pour his love into our hearts in Jesus name. Amen
