SPIRIT OF BOLDNESS, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

56

HOMILY OF MONDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF EASTER.

Acts 4:23-31, John 3:1-8

THEME: SPIRIT OF BOLDNESS

To Nicodemus, who fearfully came to see Jesus in secret for fear of the Jews, the Lord said,

“I tell you most solemnly, unless a man is born through water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God: what is born of the flesh is flesh; what is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

Oftentimes, our fear of man makes us consider a lot of outward reactions to the choices we make. And this often leads us to shrink from actualizing our real potentials. To be fulfilled, we need the boldness to stand for what we love and be ready to die for our values.

At the threat of the chief priests and elders, the community of believers gathered and prayed tirelessly.

“As they prayed, the house where they were assembled rocked; they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God boldly.”

To make a difference in a world where things of the spiritual are jeered at, to rediscover God in a materialistic world, we need the unction of the Holy Spirit. The flesh cannot do the work of the spirit. While we do not relent in our human efforts, we must always desire the power from a above.

May the Lord breathe on us once again that we may declare his greatness. May no force on earth keep us from achieving our God-given goals. Amen.
