HOMILY OF TUESDAY IN THE 9TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Tobit 2:9-14, Mark 12:13-17

THEME: WHAT WE SAY

Standing by what we say and being ready to face the consequence is a function of bravery. Consistency in the right thoughts and beliefs help us to build values worth dying for. Some of those who cluster around us with either rebuke or applause are mere monitors who come to dent our image using our responses to their coated traps.

The Pharisees and the Herodians visited Jesus with a bunch of praises, and they presented before him a dicey scenario, waiting to see him falter. They tried to trap him with a question about paying taxes to Caesar. Jesus responded by requesting to give Caesar what belongs to him and give to God what belongs to God, surprising them.

It takes grace to be saved from the hands of those who lay ambush for us.

May God grant us the grace to understand others. May he give us all it takes to stand firm in his ways, that we may always represent him in and out of season. Amen.
