40

HOMILY OF TUESDAY OF THE 10TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

2 Corinthians 1:18-22, Matthew 5:13-16

THEME: THE POWER FOR STABILITY

The truth remains the same. It does not change with time though it may be understood in the light of new happenings. We can’t bend it. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth who informs our hearts and guide us in the path of light. It helps to be consistent in the right. Paul, in the first reading said that in Jesus, there is no Yes and No. it is always Yes. His ways are straight.

Likewise, The Lord himself said in the gospel, “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill-top cannot be hidden.” We cannot hide our true character. According to a Yoruba adage, “Eefi niwa” “Character is like smoke” If we open ourselves to God’s spirit, he will continue to make us stable in our daily choices and build us into a consistent brand of himself. This helps us to bear effective witness to him. With this, we don’t bend to the waves of the world, but we remain stable in our faith profession.

May we never falter in our Yes to God. And may we be always enlightened by the spirit of truth. Amen.
