THE PRICE OF BEING A WITNESS, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

40

HOMILY OF MONDAY OF THE 11TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

2 Corinthians 6:1-10, Matthew 5:38-4

THEME:  THE PRICE OF BEING A WITNESS

Naturally, nowhere can be peaceful. The stature of nature comes with conflict of opposite and man is oftentimes woe to man, owing to the instinct for survival which at times, pushes people to go beyond their marked out lines.

Hence, peace is a product of sacrifice, patience, and endurance. In every peaceful community, there must be someone or some people who bear the brunt of the human elements.

Every desirable ideal we want to preach comes with a price.

Witnessing the truth comes with some pains in a world where people are ready to test our forbearance.

In the gospel, Jesus instructed his disciples, saying, “You’ve heard ‘an eye for an eye.’ But I say, don’t resist evil. If struck on the right cheek, offer the other. Give freely, go the extra mile, and lend without hesitation.

Paul said to the Corinthians, “We do nothing that people might object to, so as not to bring discredit on our function as God’s servants. Instead, we prove we are servants of God by great fortitude in times of suffering: in times of hardship and distress.”

May God give us the fortitude to carry out the penance of living with others.
