LOVE BEYOND HUMAN BOUNDARIES, By fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

HOMILY OF TUESDAY OF THE 11TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

2 Corinthians 8:1-9, Matthew 5:43-48

THEME: LOVE BEYOND HUMAN BOUNDARIES.

Quote: Our riches are not in what we have, but in what we give and the spirit in which we give them.

Knowing what we are expected to do is better than waiting to do only what is expected of us.  God has ways of putting into out hearts what he wants us to do at a given time and place. Our love will be seen in our readiness and passion to work towards achieving those feats which go beyond a mere call to duty. Active creativity and functional initiative are attributes of those who feel obliged to co-create with God whose possibilities are unlimited. We owe him our life which is not enough to thank him.

In the first reading, Paul praised the generosity of the churches in Macedonia. He said, “I can swear that they gave not only as much as they could afford, but far more, and quite spontaneously, begging and begging us for the favour of sharing in this service to the saints and, what was quite unexpected, they offered their own selves first to God and, under God, to us.”

Our riches are not in what we have, but in what we give and the spirit in which we give them.

More so, Jesus exhorts us in the gospel to be perfect just as our heavenly Father is perfect. We must do more than are expected by human standards. Our love must go beyond those who love us. our love must no know boundaries. He came to die for us, while we were still sinners.

May our heart be open that we may exhibit the very nature of God in our daily living. Amen.
